Petite Cendrée

The Marin French Cheese Company has been making cheese at its ranch just outside of Petaluma since 1865, and is known as the oldest continually operating creamery in the U.S. Originally known for its mild “breakfast cheese,” which is still produced today, the company now makes a range of classic French-style cheeses using Jersey, Holstein and Guernsey milk from neighboring family farms, and traditional cheesemaking practices.

Petite Cendrée is a small triple-creme barrel that is dusted with ash before it develops a bloomy rind, giving it a distinctive dark and white appearance.  The thin layer of ash not only looks elegant, but also contributes to the cheese's delicately balanced, earthy flavor.
