L’Amuse Signature Gouda and Daphne Zepos of
Essex Cheese Company

Over the years, Daphne Zepos, co-owner of Essex Cheese Company in New York, has advocated for the preservation of raw milk and small production cheeses and has served in many capacities at the American Cheese Society. Daphne is one of our cheese heroes.

Best known for developing the cheese education and internship program at Artisanal Cheese Center in Manhattan, she has taken her skills and knowledge on the road, offering high-level training to professionals in the cheese business. Recently Daphne began importing a hand-selected group of cheeses from Europe including Comte from the Jura Mountains and L'Amuse Signature Gouda from the Netherlands. Unlike mass produced goudas, L'Amuse is never allowed to mature in cold temperatures giving it a unique creamy texture and deep, nutty flavor. Eric taking a breather in Bra

Cheese Italiano!

In September, our Cowgirl Creamery team made their way to the northern region of Italy to the town of Bra for the semi-annual Slow Food Cheese Festival where hundreds of cheesemakers display and sell their wares. Cheesemaker Eric, Wholesale Chief Rachel, Founder Peggy and Sales Chief Debra enthusiastically presented our award-winning Red Hawk cheese along with Uplands Reserve, Rogue River Blue, Vermont Butter and Cheese Bijou and Bayley Hazen Blue. This was the first year that Americans were invited to participate, and thanks to lobbying by our friends at Neal's Yard Dairy and sponsorship by Atlanta Foods International, we were able to put on quite a show. Europeans were delighted to taste these cheeses and eagerly purchased all of the cheese that we brought to the Festival. We couldn't have done it without Rachel's enthusiastic mother, who acted as translator, and Eric's beloved wife who helped all of the American cheesemakers at the counter.

At the three-day festival, Taste and Milk workshops covered environmental, scientific and political issues linked to the world of cheese and dairy. Best of all, we were able to taste, share and meet with other cheesemakers from around the world.
