The Perfect Picnic Collection

Enjoy your Fourth of July fireworks with our Perfect Picnic collection. The collection includes Tome de Recolettes, an aged goat cheese from the Loire Valley, washed in Sauternes and encrusted in a dense layer of herbs (8oz); Dante, a rich and nutty sheep milk cheese from Wisconsin (8oz); and, to round out the cheese board, Cowgirl Creamery's MT TAM triple-cream (8oz). And, if you order this week for delivery before July 4, we will include our seasonal cheese, ST PAT, a nettle wrapped round (8 oz.) made with organic Jersey milk from John Taverna’s grass fed dairy. Order here.

Profile of a Cowgirl Cartoonist

Cartoonist, Josh Kramer, who spent time cheesemongering at our Washington DC shop will be working through the summer at the Ferry Building cheese counter. When we heard that Josh was enrolled in an MFA program in cartooning at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont, we asked if he would draw a series of cartoons for our newsletter. Josh tells us that he is having fun doing these cheese strips, commenting that "it's very nice to feel wanted." Josh is currently self-publishing his own journalistic non-fiction comics and aims to launch his own magazine. And yes, we want him, both for his deep cheese knowledge and artful cartoons. Head to your local County Fair. See cleaned and brushed heifers, lambs and pigs presented by proud 4-H club members. See who won the ribbons and then judge the preserves, cakes and pies for yourself. Learn about rural crafts including quilting, tanning and spinning. Early summer is the time that most counties host fairs celebrating our rural heritage. The state fairs are usually scheduled in late summer.

MILK TO CHEESE TOUR Gather a group of 10 or more friends and take the Cowgirl Milk to Cheese Tour. Beginning at our Petaluma creamery, you’ll taste cheese at different ages, participate in hands-on curd making and view the production process. Then you’ll take a short drive to the Tresch dairy to see cows being milked, hear about what makes an organic dairy, and have a bakery-fresh box lunch in the delightful apple orchard right there on the ranch. To find out more, call 866.433.7834 or email vivien@cowgirlcreamery.com.

To celebrate summer, a beautiful cheese poem by an unknown English author:
Oh cheeses that dance in the moonlight,
cheeses that mingle with sausages,
cheeses of Stonehenge.
Oh cheeses that are shy, that linger in the doorway, eyes looking down, cheeses spectacular as fireworks.
