Originally founded in 1990, Nettle Meadow Farm in upstate New York is now home to over 300 Alpine, Nubian, Saanen and mixed breed goats and several dozen Icelandic and East Freisian sheep, all of whom are fed a diet of organic hay, grains and wild herbs, raspberry leaf, garlic and kelp for balanced nutrition.. The farm is also home to several guard llamas, chickens and ducks, and a variety of rescued and retired farm animals. Owners Lorraine Lambiase and Sheila Flanagan are passionate supporters of healthy, happy animals, farm life and, of course, artisan cheese.
Nettle Meadow makes an array of fresh and aged cheeses. Named for a range of nearby mountains, Three Sisters is a delicate, small-format, bloomy-rinded cheese made from a blend of sheep, goat and Jersey cow milk. It has a compact, rich texture, clean flavors of grass and a mild tang.
