The Meadowcreek Dairy, with their seasonal Jersey herd, sits perched in the misty, cool emerald reaches of the Appalachian Mountains at an elevation of 2,800 feet, where the water is pure, the air is bright and clean, and the soils are rich and untainted.
After the Fete family took a 2004 trip to the Alpine region, they understood what they wanted to do with their Mountaineer cheese. They came back home to produce this dense, complex cheese in the European style that reflects the mountainous terroir of their own region. Aged for six months, giving it a concentrated toasted and nutty flavor with a hint of butterscotch, Mountaineer has a smooth supple texture and a natural brushed rind.
